Holiday Parade

This Saturday the Solar Knights attended the plantation holiday parade. We drove SK3 the whole way and got to show it off at city hall. The day consisted of holiday hats and nailing each other in the head with candy. It was certainly a great way to show the community what we do at South Plantation High.

A Trip On The Sea, With E-Marine

Matt, Dylan and Jasen visited Paul Landino this sunday to see his work in progress Duffy boat.
It is a fully electric solar and wind power vessel and runs on a 46 volt drive system. It has a maglev horizontal wind generator and 12 solar panels. Paul took the boat down the Fort Lauderdale new river at a good cruise of 3 knots. It was a great time and we got to talk to Paul about Matt and Dylan's solar pontoon senior project, as well about the upcoming 2015 Solar Car Challenge.

A Visit From Tesla Motors

This Wednesday Zachary Jackson from Tesla Motors of Dania Beach stopped by the tech room to see what we are all about. We showed him SK3 and the rest of what goes on in engineering.
We discussed about future events and outside he brought his personal P85 Tesla Model S.
We had a great time and were even able to 3D print a Tesla logo for him to take home.
Thank you Zach for coming to South Plantation High School Engineering!

This Friday, school board dignitaries visited our school to come see our  environmental magnet program. While they were here, Matt and Sydney attended a luncheon with them and the rest of the crew prepped the Solar Car and Go-Kart. When the dignitaries walked out of there meeting, we ran both of the cars around the magnet loop. It was a success and everybody loved the car. All in all, it was a successful day with the dignitaries.

On the road rally to Waco!

It was the morning of the the first road rally day and we were pumped up and ready to go.
By winning the previous days race we got the trophy at the flip of a coin from having a tie number of laps as staten island. We charged our batteries in the sunlight and suited Matt up in his cool shirt vest for the long trek ahead. Our destination for that day was Waco TX which was over 100 miles away.

We completed 98 miles that day and arrived in Waco Texas long enough to adjust our charge controllers and get some well earned sleep.

Down but not out

With the other cars racing around the track, The Solar Knights were pent up in the garage prying out the sheared bolts from the carbon fiber after yesterdays accident. Luckily one of the judges named Malcolm helped us get the bolt out with Easy-Out. With the car in running order we were ready to race the next day.
